The grant is to Charles Macintosh Ross, who emigrated to New Zealand in 1879, fourth son of Alexander Ross, of Kingscassie, Tain, Ross-shire. His great-nephew, Sir John Ross Marshall, GBE CH PC, was Deputy Prime Minister and later Prime Minister of New Zealand 1960-1972. Charles Macintosh Ross was himself great-grandson of John Ross, of Tain, Ross-shire, b. 1720.
