ArmsPer chevron argent and azure, in chief two holms close ppr. and in base rose Or barbed vert.
CrestA Pegasus rampant argent winged unguled and crined Or gorged with a collar azure charged with roses (two manifest) Or supporting a sword erect ppr. pommel hilt and quillions also gold.

These arms area variants of ones granted in 1764 to a Messenger family of Fountains Abbey and another granted in 1942 to a family who came from the Cumberland Messenger stock, that county recording the highest number of all the English counties.
