MottoFIDELITATE FORTITUDINE (Fidelity Fortitude)

Sir Godfrey comes from a family where five generations have served in the Royal Navy, so that sea lions on an azure field were considered an appropriate charge. The sea lion of the crest is gorged with a naval crown, which until recently was reserved for officers of Flag Rank and Sir Godfrey is the second in his family to achieve this distinction. The cross formy represents the fact that Sir Godfrey’s father was an Anglican priest. The arms include the circlet and badge of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire and are placed on the badge of the Venerable Order of St John to indicate that Sir Godfrey is a Knight of Justice of that Order.
